Liguria is an Italian region in the northwest of Italy. The region’s capital is Genoa, home to the Europe’s 2nd largest aquarium. The other main towns are Savona, La Spezia and Imperia. Most noteworthy, Cinque Terre, or the five lands, are here in the La Spezia province. They are Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso al Mare. The region shares a small border with France, directly next to the French Riviera. Therefore, this coast is sometimes called the Ligurian or Italian Riviera. The beaches lead to the Ligurian Sea. The region also borders Piedmont, Tuscany, and Emilia-Romagna. Also, Liguria is full of small beach towns. A short ferry ride connects Portofino, Rapallo, Santa Margherita Ligure, and more. Additionally, this is the region of the best pesto and focaccia.
