You may think, “buying property in a foreign country is a pipe dream,” especially if you’re on a tight budget. On the contrary, the idea is quite obtainable. Italy may not be the cheapest vacation centric country to purchase in but it may just be the best value for the money you will spend. Additionally, it offers a fairly developed infrastructure, healthcare system, and is fairly safe. The housing market in Italy is mild, with no real spikes or depressions so you can be sure your home will retain its value without fear. You can find beautiful properties for prices around €60,000–€80,000. An investment property in Italy is possible for all budget ranges. In this article we will discuss many ways to save when searching for real estate here.
ITALIAN PROPERTY WITH SMALL BUDGET
Italy’s property price scale in quite predictable depending on the region. North Italy features higher prices, slowly dropping as you move to the south. However, of course, there are exceptions to both the north and south, but as an overarching rule this statement is true. In a general sense the regions of Puglia, Calabria, Molise, Abruzzo, and Basilicata are quite inexpensive.
Also good to keep in mind, is the location within the regions. With the exception of luxurious ski resorts, the more mountainous areas are less expensive than the seaside. As another general rule, the further inland you go, the cheaper the price of the property. Luckily, with the set up of the terrain in Italy, the further inland you go, the higher the elevation. This gives way to amazing views of the glorious panorama of the coastline at a very low cost.
Italy’s Southern Steals
Puglia is a jewel of the south. It’s a great value and the region has some of the best beaches in the country. As stated previously, also Calabria and Sicily are amazing destinations for seaside or ‘close-to-the-seaside’ homes at a low price. Calabria specifically has many of those lovely hill-top towns further inland that we were mentioning. Basilicata offers wildly incredible views and nightlife at a steal. Sardinia is a small island that is home to the most beautiful sea in the world. The turquoises waters and remote villages are magical.
Italy’s Northern Nooks
Let’s talk about the northern exceptions. The small nooks in the more expensive northern regions offer the drastic four seasons, the rich cultural influences of surrounding countries, and much more.
The beautiful rural areas of the southern Piedmont and Veneto regions offer the sophistication and various climates of the north at a cheap price also. It’s close to all the ritz and glam without the overpriced property costs! If you’re thinking of buying in Italy though, of course the idea of living on a vineyard in Tuscany or Umbria has crossed your mind. While these regions are normally expensive, they do have some less expensive options if you know where to search. Looking in the outskirts and away from popular places like Florence or Chianti, you’re sure to find something more in your price range. North and South of Tuscany and the South and East of Umbria are more affordable. Even Molise has some incredible steals! Additionally, search through the properties in the less well-known regions of Abruzzo and Le Marche.
So, if you were thinking that a property purchase in Italy was far out of reach or if it had never even crossed your mind, this article should have assured you that it’s very much doable.
