1. A PROCESSION OF HISTORICAL BOATS IN THE FLOWERY RIVIERA
THE FLOWERY RIVIERA
The second Sunday of September in the Riviera del Brenta the event Riviera Fiorita takes place: a big procession of historical boats with a large number of musicians and actors and oarsmen travel down the Naviglio del Brenta.
The event starts in front of Villa Pisani in Stra (Venice), then the procession of boats brings the Doge and the King in Dolo (Venice) and it continues until Villa Contarini dei Leoni in Mira, where the procession finally ends in Venice. The event continues all over the Riviera del Brenta with music, dances and food and wine stands.
The Riviera del Brenta is an area close to Venice of particular touristic and cultural interest due to the great architectural heritage of the Venetian Villas built between the 15th and 18th centuries by the nobles of the Venetian Republic along the river Brenta.
The Naviglio of Brenta links the cities of Padua and Venice, and then over the centuries it became the holiday resort of patrons coming from the two towns.
The Brenta villas are more than 4000 and 20 of them can be visited. Some of these villas are works of famous architects such as Palladio (27 Venetian villas by Palladio are on the world heritage UNESCO list).
