LAZIO

Lazio is a region in central Italy. The capital is the famous city of Rome. Other towns in the region are Rieti, Frosinone, Latina and Viterbo. It shares a border with Campania, Abruzzo, Molisa, Umbria, Tuscany, and Le Marche. In addition, it sits on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Some areas have hills or some elevation but most of the terrain is flat. This region is full of history, art, and architecture. The famous dishes spaghetti alla carbonara or cacio e pepe are pastas that originate from Rome. Pork is also a main part of the cuisine from this region. Besides the sea, Lake Albano is a great summer getaway of Lazio also. This region is unparalleled for the richness of the Italian culture. Rome has a huge influence but there is much to see outside of the capital city. The food, wine, and ancient ruins make this region a magical destination.
