APULIA

Apulia, or Puglia, is a region in Southern Italy. The capital, Bari, sits on the Adriatic Sea. An area of the capital, called Alberobello, is home to the Trulli. These are the small, stone, cone-shaped buildings characteristic of this region. Puglia borders the Molise, Campania, and Basilicata regions but also the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. Bari, Brindisi, Foggia, Lecce, Taranto and Barlette-Andria-Trani are the region’s 6 provinces. It is mostly flat land but also has areas of rocky shore. It is the heel of Italy’s boot and offers hundreds of miles of coastline. There are many fish dishes in Puglia and it is also the home of burrata cheese. This region is not a main Italian tourist destination, so it is said to be “unspoiled.” But it’s recently become more popular. This is a great place to buy a home or retire because property prices are not expensive.
